Mount Montserrat, SpainMontserrat is one of those places where I would, if possible, make the pilgrimage yearly. I will, though, enjoy the imprint it has left on my heart for years to come. These pictures cannot portray the beauty in the heights of these mountains or of this Benedictine Abbey, or even the hermitages higher up the mountain where monks would seclude themselves for the remainder of their days at the end of their service. Montserrat consists of an Abbey, a monastery, a basilica, and the hermitages higher up the mountain where they can only be reached by cog train. Atop the mountain would be someplace where I would sit and watch the sunrise on the heights, at least once in my life, if I could. I hope in sharing these picture, you too can possibly experience a bit of the beauty and holiness which I did.The courtyard of the monasteryLooking out the courtyard window of the monasterybeautiful fresco of the holy family

Published by Along the Way: life begins at home yet our door is forever open to adventure, new places and new people. Welcome to our travels around the world.
This blog is really about us, my husband Rick and I and our travels. We are retired with grown children and two granddaughters. We travel...exhilarating in new experiences and places and all that each day holds. We believe that life begins to fade once we fail to live into it anymore. So come along the way with us and enjoy the journey too!

hi Diane and Rick. Thank you so much for your great photos and thoughtful and descriptive words. You seem to have absorbed the meaning and relevance of this walk. We were so happy you were able to make contact with David and Charlotte in Paris. We may see you in Aug. Charlie
