The Long Way Around

DSC08159

Forty-six days, 13771 km, 8556 mi. later and we are finally in Arizona for the winter. We come here every year to escape the frigid cold and enjoy the sunshine and warmth. A trip which normally is just 25 driving hours and 2480 km, 1541 mi. But this year we decided to take the long route across Canada, through the eastern United States, the midwest and finally here. It was an amazing driving tour of two very beautiful countries. Mountains, forests, oceans, seascapes, historic villages, towns, cities, and capitals. There were quaint historic white steepled churches and grand cathedrals! Yes, we saw it all. Including ramshackle little country places nearly deserted. There were museums which amazed and enthralled, landmark sculptures of art capturing our awe while others emanated tales of history. It wasn’t solely the tires on the truck putting on the miles, it was also our feet as we hiked each city / town we stayed it. We didn’t want to miss a thing for we might never pass that way again. Even our dog, Pitch, enjoyed the trip with all the new smells and places along the way. He was a trooper!

While we have arrived at home in Arizona, there is still one more place which needs to be shared with you and that was our stay in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Take a seat, stay awhile. Ponder pictures which tell a story or speak of an artist’s imagination. Imagine a sky the color of turquoise, cerulean blue and aquamarine, or adobe style buildings with doors painted a myriad of colors. Yes, this is the enchanted land of New Mexico which we have thoroughly enjoyed. And finally, leaving Santa Fe we again took back country roads…the scenic route if you will. There are far more interesting things to see if one stays away from the mainstream of traffic and does a little wandering. You guessed…we like to wander. Have a gander at what we saw in Santa Fe and en route home.
